Hello and welcome to the Fall 2020 edition of the One Room Challenge! What is the One Room Challenge you ask? For those of you who are new here, the One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event where designers and home owners across the nation choose one room in their homes to make over and share their approach, design, progress and reveals over a course of six weeks. You can find more information about the event and featured designers here! This season, I'm really excited to follow along the featured designers as they are all working with High Point Market to share the entire process of making over a room - how cool is that? I cannot wait to soak in their tips and learn more about the design process. Each designer has such a unique style, which makes this One Room Challenge all the more exciting!
I have participated in the One Room Challenge several times before and I look forward to doing the challenge each season. It's the perfect "push" I need to get things done around the home, it's really inspiring to see what others do and I just love the overall enthusiasm and camaraderie. In past challenges, I made over my master bedroom here, two story great room here and last season I made over a nursery here.
You may have caught glimpses of the room that I am planning on making over on Instagram (you can check me out at @thisissimplicite). Let me show you the embarrassing before.
We have a formal dining room that is currently used for anything but that. The space is a drop zone for amazon packages, things that need to be dropped off to Goodwill and also houses an old mattress that we need to get rid of. My husband and I are not very formal people, so we didn't want to use this room as a dining room either. We decided it would be best to create a flex space that would be serve as a conversation room/library/music room. I come from a very musical family, and have dreamt of housing my violin (yes - I play the violin!) and other musical instruments in a library setting. I envision this space to be modern, slightly eclectic with an edgy vibe.
So what do you think? I'm really excited to get started on this room makeover! I'm really nervous about the slat wall, because I have never taken on a wall as massive as this one! But I'm also excited to learn new techniques along the way! Let me share a few photos that inspired me for the space.

Each of those spaces has a completely different look, but I've drawn so much inspiration from the gallery wall, to the music instruments, to shelf arrangement to the slat wall.
So what's on the to do list?
1) stain slats to match kitchen cabinets
2) attach slats to designated walls
3) hang wall sconces
4) hang chandelier
5) assemble and style bookshelf
6) hang musical instruments
7) hang art
