Fun fact about me: my love for chocolate runs deep! I will eat anything smothered in the ooey-gooey goodness, so I am extra excited to share this recipe with you all. It combines some of the best flavors including earl grey tea, chocolate and a dash of citrus. This recipe will convert non-chocolate and non-citrus enthusiasts to total believers because the flavors are so subtle and create a perfect harmony in your mouth!
My favorite part about this recipe? The amount of earl grey! There is earl grey in the brownie mixture and in the drizzle. This not only adds a tremendous amount of flavor, it also makes the brownies stay moist. The kumquats are like the cherry on top! Ingredients:
CAKE:
1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
2 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons loose leaf Earl Grey tea, ground
8-10 kumquats sliced
EARL GREY DRIZZLE
2 cup confections sugar
1/4 cup brewed Earl Grey tea
Instructions:
BROWNIES:
1) Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray
2) In a medium size bowl whisk together the eggs, butter, oil, and vanilla extract
3) In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa, sugar, salt, baking powder, and ground tea - mix until well combined
4) Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and blend well
5) Add mixture into a greased pan
6) Place pan in the oven for 25 to 28 minutes
7) Remove the brownies from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes
EARL GREY DRIZZLE:
1) Whisk together confectioners’ sugar and brewed tea
2) Once the brownies are semi cool, drizzle on top
3) Top brownies with sliced kumquats and add more drizzle on top
