Guest Bedroom & Bathroom One Room Challenge: Week 4

It's officially week 4 of the One Room Challenge Guest Bedroom & Bathroom makeover ... let's go! This week's post is all about honesty. As I chugged away at the guest bedroom and bathroom makeover last weekend, I had a realization - I bit off way more than I can chew. When making the list of things I wanted in this makeover, I didn't realize the amount of work it would take to get it all done. And I grossly underestimated the time it takes to complete the large ticket things, like the painting the room and DIYing the accent wall. That being said, I am not ready to give up! The progress may be slow, but I think it's time to kick it into high gear. And this means working like a mad woman to get it all done in the next four weeks!

If you missed the progress over the last three weeks, here's a look back:

So what did we accomplish this past weekend? More painting! If you have been following me on Instagram, you know I have been tied to the paint pail, roller and brush. We finally have most of the colors up on the wall .. let's take a look!

What do you think about the black paint? I love the way it makes the headboard pop! I chose to paint the main wall black because I will be placing the stained wood on here. I plan to add small spacers in between the wood pieces to allow the black color to peek through.

Now speaking on stained wood, I have sampled my stain colors on my plywood and here's what it looks like.

I stained the plywood various shades of gray and black and I think the all black looks the best to me. The stains with gray just look too blue. I will likely try a few more stain colors and see which looks best before moving forward with the accent wall. My goal is to start on the accent wall early next week.

So what's ahead this week? We still need to put up the crown moulding! My contractor was ill last week, so things got moved around a little. I am hoping to have the crown molding up this week and the baseboards painted by the end of this week.

I've gotten many questions on the crown moulding. This beautiful saw tooth moulding is from Ornamental Moulding and it is absolutely beautiful! The moulding is such a modern take on what is typically viewed as traditional and I cannot wait until it goes up in the room! Ornamental Moulding and their parent company, Novo BP, have so many options to choose for both interior and exterior - be sure to check them out!

Ah the green tape! I've started taping the baseboards in preparation for painting. And as always with painting the prep always takes much longer than the actual painting.

Here's that TO DO list again ....
